Right to Disconnect policy template

Following the introduction of the ‘Right to Disconnect’ in August 2024, employers are increasingly turning their mind to how best to ensure compliance with the legislation. In order to ensure out of hours contact with employees is appropriately regulated, some employers are opting to introduce a ‘Right to Disconnect’ policy. On the other hand, some employers are opting to implement training and/or manager’s guidelines to educate people managers as to the requirements under the legislation. This is particularly important where managers of Australian staff are spread globally, noting the relatively novel nature of Australia’s ‘Right to Disconnect’.

APSCo Premium Partner, Squire Patton Boggs, has prepared a sample ‘Right to Disconnect’ policy for those Members that wish to implement one. This sample policy includes optional wording and phrasing which should be adapted to suit the Member’s business and operations.
