Employers should continue to plan for prolonged processing of visa applications and expect delays over the December/January holiday period in Australia. Published processing timeframes for the Skills in Demand (SID) visa are currently 2 weeks to 3 months for the Specialist Skills stream and 3 to 5 months for the Core Skills stream. These processing timeframes are reflected in practice.
Core skills occupation list
The CSOL provides access to the Core Skills stream of the temporary SID and the Direct Entry Stream for employer sponsored permanent migration. Stakeholder consultation has been completed a new CSOL is likely to the implemented within the next 3-6 months. It is expected the new CSOL will be drawn from the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA) which has replaced the previous Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) classification system referred to in the current CSOL. Many occupations have been reclassified in OSCA. Employers should consider mapping their key occupations to OSCA in preparation.
