Regulators are taking stronger action on psychosocial risks, issuing prohibition notices where serious or imminent risks to workers’ mental health are identified. Recent cases include WorkSafe ACT’s notice to a healthcare home visit service, after incidents revealed inadequate controls to protect visiting staff; SafeWork NSW’s prohibition notice to the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), halting a redundancy process due to risks of psychological harm; and an improvement notice to Macquarie University for poor consultation during change. These actions show psychosocial hazards must be managed like physical ones, through structured risk assessment, controls, and consultation.
